The War on Carbon

Dear Jack

The Australian government has gone one tax too far, with Rudd’s Super Tax on the resource industry. Either this tax, or the government, will go. This was a desperate grab for money to fund all the silly stimulus packages and the continuing handouts to the Climate Change Industry. It is also a grab to centralise more control of resources in Canberra.

While the Super Tax would slash mining jobs and the value of super funds, it is minor compared to the large, insidious and long term damage that is already being done, and could still become far worse in the misguided war on carbon.

Massive amounts of community capital are already being wasted on subsidies and tax breaks for roof insulation, ethanol production, carbon forests, carbon credits, climate research grants, overseas junkets, climate smart bureaucracies, wind farms and solar panels. Once they become force-fed government schemes, all of these handouts will be rorted and mismanaged.

Without any subsidies or climate smart advice, we insulated our farmhouse ceilings and walls with pure raw wool, put shutters on our windows and painted our roof white about 19 years ago.

Anything that needs government subsidies or coercion is not sustainable. And once huge subsidy-fed industries are created, there will be incessant demand from their owners to maintain their profits with the continuation or even increase in carbon taxes, green subsidies and market sharing mandates. Long after the Super Tax is just a bad memory, all taxpayers, shareholders, consumers and electricity users will still be paying for the war on carbon. These effects are already occurring with power costs rising everywhere, and much more to come.

Please help us to spread the word, and stop this silly war on carbon.

We recommend that you distribute this statement and download and spread around our new paper on “Coal, Combustion and the Grand Carbon Cycle” at:

“Stop the War on Carbon.”

The Carbon Sense Coalition today called for an end to the suicidal war on carbon.

The Chairman of “Carbon Sense”, Mr Viv Forbes, rejected green claims that coal was dirty and carbon dioxide was a pollutant.

“Carbon is being demonized because of man’s production of carbon dioxide. This campaign started as a scare on global warming.

“As the warming failed to eventuate, that morphed into a campaign trumpeting “climate change”.

“As the public became sceptical that man controlled the climate, the campaign slogans changed to “air pollution” and “clean” energy.

“The aim of this campaign now is to cripple the coal industry because combustion of coal produces carbon dioxide which is tarred as a “pollutant”.

“However carbon is the most valuable element on our planet.

“It is the building block of all life on earth, and has always provided the food, clothing and most of the energy and building materials for every human being.

“Carbon dioxide is the key link in the cycle of life on earth. It feeds the world.

“Coal is derived from plant material. It is as clean as the most fertile soil and as “green” as any forest.

“Because it was derived from plant material, every constituent in coal is a valuable atmospheric and soil nutrient needed to maintain healthy plans and animals.

“Anything can be harmful if too concentrated. We will drown in 100% water, suffocate in 100% carbon dioxide and be unable to breathe in 100% oxygen.

“The worst pollution in the world is caused by millions of poor people burning poor fuels in dirty open fires. Clean electric energy from modern coal fired power stations will abolish the smog.

“To wage war on carbon is to wage war on life.”
